Microsoft’s Surface product lineup passed certification of the Bureau of Indian Standards, which pretty much means that the company can now start selling the devices in the country.

But although the two Surface model numbers, 1516 (Surface RT) and 1601 (Surface Pro 2), are now listed as approved for local distribution, Microsoft says that it is yet to make a decision on the Surface product family in India and nothing new is available right now.

A company representative told WPCentral that Microsoft was trying to get its devices approved in many more markets in order to make sure that it could start selling tablets there, but no decisions regarding a possible product launch are usually made.

“As per BIS processes, certification is mandatory for this category. For Microsoft, we do go through these processes from time-to-time, as part of any market assessment perspective. But, at this stage, we have no announcements to offer for launch timing of the said model or other models of Microsoft Surface in India,” the company representative was quoted as saying.

Of course, everyone wants to see the whole Surface product lineup going on sale in India, including the recently launched Surface Pro 3 which is currently up for grabs in the United States and Canada only.
