Over two months have passed since Microsoft released the latest iteration of its development platform and tools to manufacturing. Now the Redmond company is preparing for the next stage in the distribution of .NET Framework 4, serving it to business users via Windows Server Update Services (WSUS). .NET Framework 4 RTM’d concomitantly with Visual Studio 2010 and was offered for download as of April 2010.

At this point in time, Microsoft hasn’t offered an actual deadline for the availability of .NET 4 through WSUS. However, the company did estimate that business users leveraging the automated update delivery solution built on top of Windows Server would be able to get .Net Framework 4 soon.

“Microsoft .NET Framework 4 and .NET Framework 4 Client Profile will be made available via Windows Server Update Services. The .NET Framework 4 is Microsoft's comprehensive and consistent programming model for building applications that have visually stunning user experiences, seamless and secure communication, and the ability to model a range of business processes,” Microsoft said.

Of course, .NET Framework 4 RTM continues to be available for download independently of WSUS. The links at the bottom of this article will provide access to both .NET 4 and the various trial editions of Visual Studio 2010, allowing users to deploy the products.

“The .NET Framework 4 Client Profile provides a subset of features from the .NET Framework 4. The Client Profile is designed to run client applications and to enable the fastest possible deployment for Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and Windows Forms technology. The .NET Framework 4 works side by side with older Framework versions. Applications that are based on earlier versions of the Framework will continue to run on the version targeted by default,” the company added.
