But only in France

Microsoft France is giving away no less than 1,000 DVDs of Windows 7 Beta Build 7000 via TechNet. What's the catch? Nothing really, but users have to be French residents in order to receive their free DVD with a copy of the Beta of Windows 7. But if indeed users live in France, then they are in luck. All that they will have to do is visit this page and agree to participate in the TechNet promotion. Microsoft revealed that the offering was designed to celebrate the launch of the new Windows 7 TechCenter.

In order to be eligible for a free Windows 7 Beta DVD users will need, aside from being French residents, to sign up for the TechNet Newsletter. The newsletter is also free of charge and provides a comprehensive array of information on various topics related to Microsoft software products, offering materials tailored to IT professionals.

The Redmond company informed that the 1,000 Windows 7 DVDs would be awarded on a first-come-first-served basis. In this context, users who manage to be among the first 1,000 to sign up for the TechNet newsletter via the promotion page will automatically receive a copy of Windows 7 Beta complete with a DVD from Microsoft. The software giant indicated that even people who had already subscribed to the TechNet newsletter could do so yet again just to participate in the promotion and get a shot at receiving one of the Windows 7 Beta DVDs.

Microsoft initially made available Windows 7 Beta Build 7000 to the public on January 10, 2009. The public availability of the Beta development milestone of Windows 7 was discontinued a month later in February, with the Redmond company now laboring to produce the first release Candidate for the operating system. Following the availability of Windows 7 Beta Build 7009, the company produced a consistent number of interim builds, including 7022, 7078, 7057 and 7068. Windows 7 Build 7070 is the latest development milestone compiled on which information leaked in the wild.
