Microsoft has finally rolled out a new set of updates for its Surface tablets, thus delivering the first batch of improvements in two months for models that also include the top-of-the-range Pro 3.

As we reported to you a couple of days ago, Microsoft has been somewhat silent about Surface tablets in recent times, and the latest two Patch Tuesday rollout didn’t bring anything new on the table for those who purchased such a device.

The same happened this month, but Microsoft has apparently picked another date to deliver a new set of improvements for Surface Pro tablets. Unfortunately, Surface RT (the original Surface) and Surface 2 got absolutely no improvements this month either.

Surface Pro 3 gets the biggest number of improvements

Unsurprisingly, the Surface Pro 3 is the biggest star of this new release, so Microsoft’s most advanced tablet model received lots of updates, including a Surface Pro UEFI update to version 3.11.450.0, that adds support for updated HD Graphics Family driver.

At the same time, Microsoft also shipped a Wireless Network Controller and Bluetooth driver update which, according to the company, “addresses connectivity issues while Hyper-V is enabled and adds an advanced feature to control the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz band preference.”

It’s a well-known fact that Surface Pro 3 owners experienced limited connectivity issues with their Wi-Fi adapters, so this new update might again try to address all problems.

Last but not least, the Pro 3 is also getting an HD graphics driver update to version 10.18.14.4029, that brings a plethora of improvements. “It enhances display stability and performance, improves user experience when using Miracast adapters. Improves compatibility with DisplayPort monitors and daisy chaining,” Microsoft says.

Both the Pro 2 and the original Pro models received updates as well, but in this case, the number of improvements delivered to the two versions is significantly lower.

As usual, all these improvements are available through the standard update channel via Windows Update, but make sure that your tablet is fully charged or plugged in before kicking off the installation procedure. In our case, the Surface Pro 3 needed around 10 minutes to update.
