Video game publisher Microsoft has launched a new video for its free-to-play online strategy game Age of Empires Online, designed to explain the core concepts of the game to those players who are not yet familiar with it and persuade them to try it out.

Age of Empires Online allows gamers to engage in normal strategy battles while also upgrading a core town hub to get access to new abilities and new units.

The game experience can be upgraded by purchasing content packs from Microsoft, which include new civilizations and new items.

Those who get an Annual Pass can get the content pack for cheaper, which makes the business model of Age of Empires Online closer to that of a traditional MMO than a free-to-play title.

The game was initially developed by Robot Entertainment, the company that rose from the ashes of Ensemble Studios, and then Gas Powered Games has took over development and maintenance efforts.
