Support for this feature will end sometime in March

Microsoft has just announced it will drop support for Rooms feature in Windows Phone beginning March. Even though Windows Phone users will still be able to view and use their room photo albums, calendars and notes, this feature will not be supported anymore beginning next month.

One thing that Windows Phone 8 and 8.1 users won't be able to make anymore, after support for this feature ends, is creating new rooms or make membership or permissions changes to existing rooms.

Furthermore, after Rooms' support ends, Windows Phone users won't be able to send any new room chat messages to the other room members.

The move that has just been announced by Microsoft is probably meant to improve this feature and re-introduced in some other form. This is hinted by Microsoft in the official announcement as well:

“We're making way for new features in Windows 10 that will help you stay in touch with the people that matter most. Once you update to Windows 10 Technical Preview for phones, rooms will no longer show up on your phone.

“You'll still be able to get to your photo albums, calendars and notes, either on the web or by using other apps on your phone. You won't be able to see your chat history or send or receive any new chats.”

You are advised to save your Room-related info

For those of you who have important info in your room chats, the best way to keep it is to save a copy somewhere else before updating your phone beyond Windows Phone 8.1.

In order to see the content using apps on your phone, you can check any photos and video in the OneDrive app in a folder with the same name as the room.

Additionally, if you have any Calendar info, then you should head to the Calendar app to see your room calendar. Last but not least, you can find your room notes in the OneNote app, in a notebook with the same name as the room.
