The Office for Mac Team is axing support for the 2008 edition of Microsoft’s productivity suite on the Mac. Interested parties are encouraged to hop on the Office 365 train to sign up for Office 2011.

If you rely on Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 and are still hoping to get maintenance updates from the Redmond giant, prepare to have your bubble burst.

“Support for Office for Mac 2008 will end April 9th, 2013,” reads a memo on the Office for Mac blog.

“View the Microsoft Support Lifecycle Policy for further details, such as the support dates for this product,” adds the Office for Mac team.

Microsoft encourages customers to buy an Office 365 subscription. This includes Office for Mac 2011, which continues to be supported by the company (including future upgrades).

“You can also still download updates for Office for Mac 2008 until April 19, 2014, but we recommend you try Office 365 for the best experience,” Microsoft adds.
