Steve Ballmer announced a few months ago that all Microsoft’s employees would receive a free Surface tablet and a Windows Phone 8 soon after the public debut of these two products.

According to a tweet posted by Jeff Wilcox, senior software developer at Microsoft, the company has now started to hand out tablets to its employees.

“Surface for employees – go!” the tweet reads, with Wilcox adding in a later message that employees won’t receive the upcoming Surface with Windows 8 Pro, but only the RT.

While this is clearly good news for those working for Microsoft, the decision to gift employees with free tablets is also helpful for all Windows 8 adopters, as more apps could be released in the upcoming months thanks to developers who finally get the device.
