Edge is the new Microsoft browser for Windows 10

Microsoft announced at BUILD 2015 that Project Spartan would be called Microsoft Edge in Windows 10, so the company is getting ready to introduce a new browser that would finally help it move away from Internet Explorer and the negative perception affecting its adoption.

But it turns out that Microsoft isn’t actually willing to migrate from Internet Explorer entirely, as the icon of the new Microsoft Edge perfectly resembles the one of the old browser.

Microsoft Edge is a completely new browser that features a new engine, a new UI, and a new name, so everyone expected the software giant to embark on a new adventure against Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. But with an icon like the one you can see in this article, don’t be too surprise if the hate against Microsoft’s browser continues.

Microsoft Edgeplorer?

The new name of Microsoft’s browser isn’t quite the one that users across the world expected, as many wanted the company to call it “Spartan” and thus retain the moniker currently being used for the Windows Insider program.

For example, a post on UserVoice to keep Spartan as the new name of the next version of the browser has more than 17,000 votes.

“Spartan, as the code name of IE12 is a great choice. As you did with code name Cortana earlier on WP, please keep Spartan once the new browser is released to the public,” the user suggestion reads.

Obviously, there’s still time for Microsoft to backtrack on this decision, but we doubt this would actually happen, given the fact that the same name is also being used for the engine powering the browser. But with an icon that reminds of Internet Explorer, Microsoft only gives users more reasons to poke fun at its browser. And it doesn’t really need that right now.
