Microsoft has launched the latest iteration of its enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution for midsize businesses, promising that the next version will follow in two to three years. According to the Redmond company, Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 brings to the table close integration with other Microsoft technologies along with interoperability with line-of-business applications, but also advanced functionality and business intelligence reporting options.

“By combining the power of business applications and productivity applications, we’re able to support how people really work in their everyday jobs,” Crispin Read, general manager of Microsoft Dynamics ERP, explained. “Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 is an excellent choice for companies experiencing growing pains with their current accounting software and looking for a solution that can scale.”

Embracing Dynamics GP 2010 will enable customers to take advantage of default personalized Role Centers shipping with the product. The Role Centers were accompanied by in excess of 400 built-in Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services and Microsoft Excel reports, the Redmond company emphasized. In addition, customers will be able to leverage interoperability with SharePoint and PowerPivot for Excel 2010.

In addition, Dynamics GP 2010 can also support scenarios in which businesses need fast and comprehensive access to customers and vendors. Featuring over 350 integrated Web services, Dynamics GP 2010 is also designed to play nice with Office Unified Communications, and comes with a built-in integration set up to bridge it to Dynamics CRM.

“The new Role Centers and the ability to tap into SQL Server Analysis Services as well as SQL Server Reporting Services are significant. This allows for full drill-down capability — a level of insight that should be new and welcome for former QuickBooks users,” Todd M. Bowlsby, senior Dynamics consultant, InterDyn – Remington Consulting, added.

Customers in Australia, Canada, the Caribbean, the Middle East, New Zealand, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States will be the first to get Dynamics GP 2010 through Microsoft’s partner network, as early as May 1. In addition, Microsoft plans a second wave of releases, namely French Canadian and Latin American Spanish versions of the product, in the second half of 2010. The company emphasized that customers could opt for either on-premises or on-demand and subscription-based hosting models for Dynamics GP 2010.
