The first Community Technology Preview development milestone of Microsoft Drivers 3.0 for SQL Server for PHP is available for download to early adopters. At the end of August 2011, I was telling you that the software giant was hard at work on new Java and PHP interoperability resources for SQL Server 2012 codename Denali.

According to the Microsoft, one of said resources was the next release of the PHP driver for SQL Server, which the company is planning to provide along with Denali.

The PHP Drivers 3.0 CTP1 for SQL Server can be leveraged in order to bridge PHP applications with SQL Server, including the next major iteration of the Redmond company’s data platform.

“The Microsoft Drivers for PHP for SQL Server are PHP 5 extensions that allows for the reading and writing of SQL Server data from within PHP scripts. The SQLSRV extension provides a procedural interface while the PDO_SQLSRV extension implements PDO for accessing data in all editions of SQL Server 2005 and later,” Microsoft explained.

The test releases of Drivers 3.0 for SQL Server for PHP and SQL Server codename Denali are available free of charge to all early adopters. As always, the software giant is welcoming feedback that could influence the development process of this resource.

Traditionally, Microsoft has been offering Drivers for SQL Server for PHP free of charge to all customers running its data platform, and I expect this to also be valid with once version 3.0 is wrapped up.

“The major highlights of this release include: support for SQL Server Codename “Denali” features, and Buffered Queries. The “Denali” features include support for AlwaysOn Connectivity, encompassing support for Multi-Subnet Failover, connectivity to AlwaysOn Availability Groups and Read-Only Routing, and support for SQL Express LocalDB,” revealed Jonathan Guerin, program manager Microsoft Drivers for PHP for SQL Server, SQL Connectivity.

It important to note that Drivers 3.0 for SQL Server for PHP CTP1 also come with features that are not connected to codename Denali, such as support for high availability and disaster recovery.
