Microsoft has created its own version of the viral Double Rainbow video that is a smash hit on YouTube with in excess of 12.9 million videos. The first video embedded at the bottom of this article is the new content put together by the Redmond company and associated with Windows Live Photo Gallery.

The second video allows users to get acquainted with Bear, the author of the original Yosemitebear Mountain Giant Double Rainbow, which is also embedded at the bottom of the screen.

” You may have heard of the Double Rainbow Video. The guy who filmed this, Paul “Bear” Vasquez, lives in Yosemite and in the past month has gotten huge traffic for his ‘vivid’ reaction to that double rainbow,” revealed Microsoft’s Connor Lanman.

“We hooked up with Bear to learn more about him & show him how to capture a full on double rainbow with Windows Live Photo Gallery using our panorama stitch feature. It’s so intense!” Lanman added.

Microsoft is currently developing Windows Live Essentials 2011 / Wave 4, an evolution which is also synonymous with advances in terms of Photo Gallery.

Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011 features a range of new features, including the new Ribbon UI, but also enhanced Find capabilities via new search filters; facial recognition; batch editing; Photo Fuse; retouch; Windows 7 Library integration; geo-tagging; dharing to Facebook, Flickr, SkyDrive, and YouTube; network file support; suite integration – AutoMovie in Photo Gallery, better Photo Mail, etc.; photo books; AutoMovie Themes in slide show; an d hardware acceleration.

However, Photo Stitch, the particular feature advertised in Microsoft’s Double rainbows in Redmond, has already been available in Photo Gallery.

“After a 10 hour shoot we shared stories, ate delicious Vietnamese food (Bear’s favorite), and hung out with the crew,” Lanman added.

“We did a second video called “Meet Bear” where talks about his experience posting “Double Rainbow” and his love for sharing photos and videos with the world using Windows Live Essentials".

“Bear is something special. He’s entered the world of social media in hopes to share laughs, smiles, and insights. It’s not about the product, it’s about the people. It’s about the viewers, the users, it’s about you. And more importantly this project also shows how powerful sharing photos and videos can be,” he concluded.

In mid-August 2010, Microsoft released Windows Live Essentials 2011 Beta Refresh Build 15.4.3001.0809 which comes with Photo Gallery Build 15.4.3002.0810.

Windows Live Essentials Wave 4 Build 15.4.3001.0809 is available for download here.
