Archos is the manufacturer behind this cheap tablet

In recent times Microsoft has recognized the need to penetrate the budget tablet market, if it ever hopes of ever making a difference in the ecosystem.

Subsequently, we have seen the advent of the cheap Windows 8.1 with Bing tablet. Some models came from obscure Chinese white box vendors, but some were offered by household names like Toshiba.

Well, it’s time for French budget device manufacturer Archos to jump on the same bandwagon. The company has just announced the 80 Cesium tablet which is pegged for IFA 2014.

The device maker says the slate has been designed to offer “the user experience on your desktop on the go.” It will become available to users starting October for £129 / $214 / €162 in the UK (or $149 / €113 in the US).

Spec-wise, the tablet offers an 8-inch IPS screen with 1280 x 800 pixel resolution and draws life from an unnamed Intel quad-core processor (could turn out to be Bay Trail).

Even if we don’t have the whole spec list to share with you, one thing we can be certain of. Microsoft has done it again and its assault on the budget tablet world is continuing at a pace.

We’ll keep an eye out at IFA 2014 for the tablet, so I can come back and tell you the whole story.
