A group of several famous companies including Disney, CBS, Viacom, MySpace and Microsoft announced their support for the User Generated Content Principles which are supposed to protect the users' content in the virtual world. In a world where anybody can claim your content is actually owned by them, these principles comes as a rescue over numerous legal problems which started after the copyright
holders saw their creation stolen on the web. The interesting fact is that Google, one of the companies which manipulates probably the largest amount of user generated content, is not a part of the deal although it struggles to improve its copyright filters.

"These principles offer a road map for unlocking the enormous potential of online video and user-generated content. Cooperation among us, aided by emerging technologies, can clear the way for further growth in the availability of online video in ways that will be good for consumers, good for copyright owners and good for uploading services," Bob Iger, President and CEO, The Walt Disney Company, said.

Getting back to Google, it should really join this group because it would improve its image and it would also prove other companies that it really wants to stop copyright infringement. Earlier this day, it was reported that Viacom sustained Google's anti-copyright filter is not enough to stop the phenomenon, the media company waiting to see even more than that from the super search giant.

There is no other firm affected by the copyright infringement as Google is at this time because lots of companies and even users sued the Mountain View company for copyright infringement after their creations appeared on YouTube without authorization. Moreover, it's a well-known fact that YouTube is the service which hosts the largest amount of homemade videos as millions of ordinary consumers use the Google video sharing service to share their clips with other Internet users.

"We are delighted that so many leading companies have come together behind a set of principles that provide a framework for intellectual property to live in harmony with technical advances. These principles will enable innovative technology and great content to come together to spur greater innovation and, most importantly, much richer entertainment experiences for consumers," Philippe Dauman, President and CEO, Viacom Inc., stated.
