The Redmond Company has launched Internet Explorer 7 Release Candidate 1 for Windows XP SP2/x64/Server 2003 on August 24, 2006, but despite being the last stage on the push for the final version
of the product, the browser first public release candidate shipped contains problems. Dean Hachamovitch, IE General Manager has presented IE7 RC1 as a complete product but admitted that negative feedback could gear the company towards launching an additional release candidate.
In this context, Internet Explorer Product Manager Peter Gurevich has made an entry on the IEBlog addressing an issue with DXTransforms and ClearType. Gurevich's blog post aimed to present the company's strategy related to text readability in the browser.
"During our testing we noticed that DXTransforms are sometimes applied to elements that contain text (now rendered in ClearType). As our users also noticed, the ClearType text then looks extremely blurry - unfortunately these two technologies just don't mix well. This is because the basic convolution transform used by DXTransforms does not take into account the spatial nature of ClearType," wrote Gurevich.
The Internet Explorer developing team has taken the decision to disable ClearType on elements using DXTransform altogether. Gurevich has described an inadvertence that will occur with text rendering in Internet Explorer 7 as it will be both ClearType and aliased text. This is the case because the text on elements that use DXTransform will be rendered as aliased text.
