The software giant still recommends everyone to remove the update

Microsoft issued a total of nine different security bulletins on Patch Tuesday, but one of the included updates caused a number of Windows 7 machines to display the infamous Blue Screen of Death after rebooting.

While the company has already confirmed the issue and said that it's working on a patch, it also recommended everyone to remove the update labeled KB2823324 as soon as possible by booting into Safe Mode.

Dustin Childs, Group Manager, Response Communications, Microsoft Trustworthy Computing, also issued a statement to provide more information on the matter, explaining that the bug is caused by an incompatibility with some third-party applications.

We've already told you that many Kaspersky Anti-virus customers are experiencing this issue, but it appears that the bug can be found on computers running other security products too.

“We’ve determined that the update, when paired with certain third-party software, can cause system errors. As a precaution, we stopped pushing 2823324 as an update when we began investigating the error reports, and have since removed it from the download center,” Childs explained.

“Contrary to some reports, the system errors do not result in any data loss nor affect all Windows customers.”

Even though the update has since been removed from the download center, some users are still getting it, with others adding that KB2823324 is automatically installed on their computers.

Microsoft provides detailed instructions on how to remove the update in security advisory KB2839011, so consumers can choose from several methods to roll back the changes and disable auto-updating.

In the meantime, both Microsoft and software companies whose applications are affected by this bug are working on a fix, so make sure you block the update until an official workaround comes out.

The Redmond-based tech giant will most likely issue the patch sometime this weekend, so we promise to keep you up-to-date on this and let you know how to fix the error.
