Microsoft's Data Warehousing solution is nothing short of magic. When it comes down to integrated data management and analysis products, the Redmond company is offering SQL Server 2005, as an alternative to offerings from Teradata, Oracle and IBM. The Microsoft SQL Server 2005 software designed for the data warehouse database management system market has made it into the Leaders portion of the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Warehouse Database Management Systems, 2007. According to Gartner, although Microsoft is not in a dominant position on the market, SQL Server 2005 is performing well in terms of overall adoption. The Redmond company welcomed its positioning in this year's Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Warehouse Database Management Systems.

"In my opinion, this report is a strong statement about Microsoft's continued commitment to providing a comprehensive data platform that scales with the needs of enterprise applications and data storage requirements," said Ted Kummert, corporate vice president of the Data and Storage Platform Division at Microsoft. "Customers such as Danske Supermarket, PREMIER Bankcard and TDC are using the data warehousing functionality of SQL Server 2005 and are seeing amazing business results. With the upcoming release of SQL Server 2008, customers will realize even greater innovations designed to help them access, manage and utilize their business data."

"The data warehouse database management system (DBMS) market continues to show intense, increasing competition. Interestingly, 2007 saw the market continuing to embrace the appliance solution - while many organizations are deploying technically elegant solutions, a larger part of the market is following the mantra of "easy to install, rapid time-to-productivity and 80% of needs met." IBM, Oracle and Teradata continue to battle for the largest part of the market with increased marketing and new functionality. Microsoft has entered the fray with a more competitive DBMS, which has seen a rapid uptake in midsize businesses - especially important, as they will grow into large companies", Gartner revealed.

According to the report from the market analysis firm, the implementation of SQL Server 2005 for data warehousing comes with an accelerated usage and uptake trend. Gartner revealed that in the two years since the solution was made available, SQL Server 2005 moved in the data warehousing market for databases up to 6TB. One of the largest advantages offered by the product is streamlined scalability between small and midsize warehouses, along with an extensive support infrastructure. Microsoft has already announced that SQL Server 2008 will drop by mid 2008, bringing to the table additional enhancements designed to deliver the company with a stronger foothold on the market.
