A representative of Microsoft has said that part of the success that the Xbox 360 home console has been enjoying at retail is linked to the superior experience that the device delivers when it comes to those games who are released on more than one platforms.

Chris Lewis, who is the leader of the marketing effort for the Xbox 360 in Europe, has told Eurogamer that, “We're also pretty confident the cross-platform experience is better on Xbox. We enjoy great success with Call of Duty. Live is the oxygen that runs through our business.”

He also talked about the exclusives launched by Microsodt, adding, “DLC windows of exclusivity are critical for us for differentiation. We'll continue to bring those exclusives through our own studio work, Gears and Forza and other titles.”

Lewis is implying that the services and the experience offered through Xbox Live are superior to those that are delivered by Sony through its own PlayStation Network, which might not be objectively true.

Still, Microsoft has managed to create an image that its own service is the superior one and has managed to attract a number of publishers and developers who are willing to offer exclusive content for it.

The executive says that, in the long run, the company is working closely to the two biggest publishers in the industry, Electronic Arts and Activision Blizzard, in order to make sure that for all their cross platform titles the best experience still takes place on the Xbox 360.

This fall the Microsoft home console is likely to get a boost from the launch of the first-person shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, from developer Infinity Ward, which has traditionally managed to sell about 2 copies on the Xbox 360 for each one delivered on the PlayStation 3.

The Xbox 360 has dominated the home console sales in the United States as tracked by the NPD Group.
