14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore has already confirmed that a new version of Office is coming to Windows Phone, and now a mockup posted on the Colombian Facebook page of the company has made people believe that a release is very close.
The screenshot spotted by WMPowerUser on the Microsoft Colombia account shows a version of Office that looks very similar to the one available on iOS running on a Windows Phone device, so it’s easy to see why some people believe that the company is getting ready to debut the new version.
Unfortunately, this is nothing more than a mockup which Microsoft created for advertising purposes, even though there might be some chances to see the next Office for Windows Phone version look like the one on iOS for a seamless transition from one platform to another.
Microsoft already confirmed the new Office
Joe Belfiore, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Operating Systems Group, confirmed in a post on his Weibo account earlier this month that a new version of Office for Windows Phone was on its way and reiterated that Microsoft received all letters from its users.
As a result, the company is really keen on listening to their requests, so the new Office would be specifically tweaked to address their feedback.
“I want to assure you that our Office team has not forgotten Windows Phone - we're just aligning all of our news and announcements to a single event. You'll hear much more about what we have planned before Chinese New Year,” Belfiore said in his post.
Windows Phone 10 Preview coming next week
Microsoft will be holding a dedicated Windows 10 event for consumers on January 21, and during the same show, the company is also expected to unveil its plans for the mobile operating system and devices including the Lumia series.
Shortly after the event, Microsoft is also likely to roll out a testing version of Windows Phone 10 that would allow users enrolled in an insider program to try out the new mobile OS and help the company develop new features and improvements.
Windows Phone 10 could also launch under a different name, and sources from within the company claim that Windows 10 for Phones is very likely to be the next designation of the platform.
