While it may not be actual content, it's still better than doing nothing at all

Publisher Activision's promotional deal with platform holder Sony translated into a lot of timed exclusive content for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 editions of the upcoming online multiplayer shooter Destiny, but Microsoft plans to counter the move.

As such, players who opt to pre-order the Xbox 360 and Xbox One editions of Destiny on Microsoft's own store will benefit from a special "exclusive offer" of their own, in the form of a $10 / €7 Xbox digital gift card code.

Considering that the PS3 and PS4 exclusive content will take a whole year to reach Microsoft's platforms, the counter-offer seems hardly relevant, but you can always look at it as a discount on the game, or a 25 percent off the top of the game's season pass.

It's certainly better than nothing, and the PlayStation exclusives aren't even that big of a deal, considering the wealth of content in Destiny.

For the time being, the offer is only available in the United States, but we'll come back with more if it catches on and spreads to other regions.

Bungie's mythic science fiction shooter is currently scheduled to come out on September 9, 2014, for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 platforms.
