Redmond presented both the Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 2 during an event in New York and even though shipments will only begin on October 22, the company is already looking into ways to boost sales of the device.

One of the plans that could help Microsoft bring in more money for the Surface division is a potential trade-in program that would allow people who previously purchased a Surface tablet to trade-in their devices in exchange for a Surface 2/Surface Pro 2 and a small amount of money.

The Surface team confirmed in an AMA session on Reddit that it’s currently discussing such a campaign internally, explaining that a public announcement would be made at a later time.

“We're very happy you're interested. We'll definitely discuss options w/ the MS Store team. We really don't have anything lined up right now though. I know that's not the answer you wanted... but we'll be back after we investigate options more,” the team said in a short message.

This kind of campaign would clearly come in handy for Microsoft, especially because its tablets continue to be considered quite pricey. The top-of-the-range Pro 2, for example, will cost no less than $1,700 (€1,335).
