Just as we told you a few days ago, the Redmond-based technology firm will dump the Microsoft Points system for Windows 8 purchases, but it will continue to use it on Xbox Live.

A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed for The Verge that the software company would switch to a real money transaction system for Windows 8, regardless of whether we are talking about apps, videos or any other content available via the new operating system.

“Microsoft Points continue to be the currency for purchasing content for the Xbox 360 console,” the Microsoft official told the aforementioned source.

Microsoft however didn’t reveal whether it plans to follow the same strategy on Xbox platforms in the near future too or whether it prefers to stick to the traditional Points system.
