Redmond-based software giant Microsoft has confirmed a new update for its Windows Phone 8 users for the first half of the year, set to provide CalDAV and CardDAV support for the platform.

The news comes from a product manager for the company, which told German news site Heise at CEBIT that the feature is set to arrive on devices in the not too distant future.

CalDAV and CardDAV support is set to arrive on Windows Phone in an attempt to ensure that users continue enjoying Gmail services on their devices, after Google announced that it would end support for ActiveSync as of July 31, 2013.

The move will affect only new devices, as existing ones should be able to continue using Gmail without issues.

While no other info on the aforementioned update has been provided, WMPoweruser suggests that it might be none other than the previously rumored GDR2.
