The second-generation Surface tablet is a much more successful device as far as sales are concerned, with all models selling out quickly at several online retailers.

Microsoft has confirmed that the new Surface is indeed selling like hot cakes these days, revealing that Surface revenue more than doubled sequentially, from $400 million (€292 million) in the first quarter to $893 million (€652 million) in the second quarter.

The new-generation is clearly selling better than the original models, which posted revenues of $853 million (€623 million) for the same period one year ago, but given the fact that Microsoft’s costs with the Surface tablet reached $932 million (€680 million) for the quarter, Redmond is still on a loss.

The second-generation Surface tablet was launched in October 2013 and brought upgraded configurations for both the RT and the Pro models, including new storage options and a richer accessory range.
