Microsoft has only recently launched the second-generation Surface tablet, but the company is already working on several new projects supposed to help expand the product line, the company said.

Panos Panay, head of the Surface team, said in a recent event in Seattle that Microsoft is indeed working on new tablet sizes, but he refused to comment on the possibility to see an 8-inch device with Redmond’s badge.

“We have a lot of great things that we are thinking about and working on, and there are multiple aspect ratios and sizes and awesome things to come from Surface,” he said according to GeekWire. “That’s the best answer I have for you.”

According to previous reports, a smaller Surface tablet would be powered by a Qualcomm processor and would feature the same Windows RT 8.1 OS as the Surface 2 model. The launch could take place in early 2014.
