Microsoft has rolled out a new design for some of the Windows 8 apps listed on the web, but quickly pulled it shortly after that for no clear reason.

The new appearance, on the other hand, is now being rolled out for many of the Metro apps also available on the web, so it's pretty clear that Microsoft is ready to launch a completely new look for these listings.

A Microsoft spokesperson told us that this is the “refresh” the company was talking about at the BUILD developer conference, so this is nothing more than an attempt to make the web-based pages look similar to the Modern design of the Store integrated into Windows 8.1.

At the same time, the tech giant also introduced a search option for Metro apps, so you can now look for such tools without even installing Windows 8 on your computer.
