Good news for Rogers’ customers waiting for Nokia Lumia 920 to arrive as Microsoft Canada has just confirmed the smartphone would hit shelves on November 12.

Unfortunately, the Redmond-based company did not offer any additional details on whether or not the Lumia 920 would be available in Canada from other carriers as well.

However, this was to be expected, as Nokia had already announced having signed exclusivity agreements with numerous operators across the globe. Nokia Lumia 920 will be exclusive to EE in the UK, while in the US only AT&T will offer it.

Even though the exclusivity period won’t last more than a few months, perhaps several in some countries, Windows Phone fans will probably be extremely frustrated by the fact they cannot purchase their favorite device unless they commit to a new contract with a carrier they don’t really want.

In this regard, Nokia Lumia 920 will be available via Rogers for as low as $100/€80 with a new three-year agreement. It will also be up for sale for $550/€435 on month-to-month plan.

In the same piece of news, Microsoft Canada also stated the HTC Windows Phone 8X would be available at Rogers on the same date, November 12.

There are no details on the phone’s price for the moment, but it’s been confirmed Rogers will carry both 8GB and 16GB models.

Rogers kicked off pre-orders for Nokia Lumia 920 several weeks ago and some customers who pre-purchased the smartphone have already received it.

Word is that the first batch of Lumia 920 units shipped by the carrier were unlocked versions, but this has yet to be confirmed.

We’re pretty sure HTC 8X will be available from other Canadian operators besides Rogers, but so far only Bell confirmed it would sell its own version of HTC WP8 device. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.

If Microsoft and Nokia stopped trying to be Apple by offering their phones through exclusive carriers only, they might be more successful. Apple may have been successful with exclusive deals but they have the iPhone. Microsoft and Nokia have only themselves to blame for their decline. Exclusivity is a form of descriminitation in my view and is unfair to those who want to stay at their carriers but don't have the option to acquire some newer phones. Bigger is not necessarily better, it's the features that count so if they want to go head to head with Apple, they need to get creative!
