Microsoft will discuss all its Windows 10 plans for consumers tomorrow, during an event at its headquarters in Redmond, and as part of the conference, the company is also expected to demo a new Technical Preview build that would include a bunch of new features.

And yet, it's not known when this build could become available for Windows Insiders, as there were some rumors that Microsoft could release it just after the January 21 event.

Gabriel Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, said in a tweet that Microsoft would release the new Windows 10 Technical Preview build “shortly after that,” suggesting that late January was a more likely timetable for the launch of this fresh version.

It could be called January Technical Preview

The next Windows 10 Technical Preview build is expected to include more features aimed at consumers, such as Cortana and Continuum, both of which are not yet available in build number 9879, the latest release shipped to Windows Insiders.

Starting this month, Microsoft might name its releases based on the month they get the green light for launch, so this time the build could be called Windows 10 January Technical Preview.

Microsoft is reportedly trying to provide us with a new build every month, so very soon, the company could introduce the February Technical Preview, followed by March Technical Preview and so on.

Not shipping to Windows 10 build 9901

One important thing that Windows Insiders should take into considerations when planning to deploy the new Technical Preview build is that only build 9879 and 9888 can be automatically updated using the built-in system.

Build 9901, which was leaked in mid-December, has a bug that does not allow this feature to work properly, so a clean install is needed in this case, Microsoft says.

New ISOs will also be provided in case someone wants to deploy the new release from scratch, so everyone should be able to give Windows 10 JTP a try no matter their method.
