Microsoft has just announced it has managed to sold no less than 3 million Xbox One consoles by the end of last year. The information has been confirmed by Yusuf Mehdi, Xbox Corporate VP of Marketing, Strategy and Business.

The number is pretty impressive especially that Microsoft managed to reach this milestone is a little more than a month and by selling the Xbox One across only 13 countries.

Xbox One was officially released on the market back on November 22, one week after PlayStation 4's launch in the United States.

According to Microsoft, there have been around 1 million of Xbox One units sold only in the first day the console went on sale.

The second million of Xbox One consoles sold was attained less than 20 days, which means in order to sell another million Microsoft needed more than 20 days.

“Over 3 million Xbox One consoles were sold to consumers in 13 countries before the end of 2013. It’s been incredible to see Xbox One selling at a record-setting pace for Xbox, and we were honored to see Xbox One become the fastest-selling console in the U.S. during our launch month in November.

Since our launch, demand for Xbox One has been strong, selling out throughout the holidays at most retailers worldwide. We are continuing to work hard to deliver additional consoles to retailers as fast as possible,” said Yusuf Mehdi in a blog post.

He then went on and stated this year will be amazing for Xbox One owners, as many titles that have been announced last year will be released in the coming months, including Titanfall, Watch_Dogs, Project Spark, Sunset Overdrive, Tom Clancy’s The Division, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Destiny, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, and The Elder Scrolls Online.

It will be interesting to see how many PlayStation 4 units Sony has manage to sell by the end of 2013. Hopefully, it won't take long for Sony to come forward with its own numbers. Until then you may want to check out our full Xbox One review.
