They are very hopeful

Microsoft is definitely proud of its console in this period; the Xbox 360 managed to overcome the sales of the PlayStation 3, its main competitor and is now holding the number two spot in the most popular console chart, behind Nintendo and its immensely successful Wii. Recent sales reports have even highlighted that the Xbox 360 is dominating in Sony’s home country, Japan, in terms of consoles and games shipped.

All of these spectacular results have a few causes, the main one being the recent price cut Microsoft made on its console line, with the most basic Arcade version now costing only 199 dollars, way below the PlayStation 3. Also, the strong lineup of games coming to the Xbox 360, including titles such as Fable II or Gears of War 2, has made it even more appealing in the eyes of consumers.

Aaron Greenberg, the group product manager for Microsoft’s Xbox division, spoke to Kotaku about the huge sales of the Xbox 360 and his idea that would continue in the upcoming holiday season.

“We expect to continue our price advantage over the PlayStation 3 for a long time. And we feel confident that we'll outsell the PS3 this holiday season in North America and in Europe. We'll do it on a global scale.”

He also pointed several things out, like the Xbox 360’s high games sales, which overcome the PS3 and Wii titles’ sales combined. Then, he tackled the pretty sensitive issue of the Xbox Live service which, during the last holiday season, didn’t work because of the big number of players. According to Greenberg, this time, it will be different, hoping that the upcoming revamp of the dashboard and interface will make the system even more reliable.
