Today, Microsoft has made available for download an updated flavor of its Codename Trust Services SDK and Management Tool, an application-level encryption framework that provides developers with the possibility to protect sensitive data.

The latest update for the application was made available with some new features for developers to take advantage of, and comes with support for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 platforms. It also requires .Net 4.0 Framework.

The Trust Services also enables data publishers to encrypt data before it is stored in Windows Azure storage or SQL Azure, so as to make sure that it is kept safe from unauthorized access.

According to Microsoft, the July 2012 update for Trust Services brings support for search on encrypted data, encryption of streams, and separation of roles for data policy administration, publishing and consumption.
