Panos Panay, the man in charge with the Surface division at Microsoft, has just announced on Twitter that the planned launch event for the new Surface with Windows 8 Pro had been canceled due to the snowstorm.

“Given the blizzard warning for NYC area I’m super bummed I won’t be able to be there to see the first Surface Pros sold in Union Square,” he wrote.

According to a Microsoft statement published by Neowin, the company won’t hold its launch event for the new tablet, but the device will still go on sale in the United States and Canada on Saturday morning.

“Surface Pro launch activities in NYC have been cancelled due to weather; our best wishes for everyone impacted by the blizzard,” a company representative was quoted as saying.

Microsoft initially planned to unveil the Surface Pro during an invitation-only event, but the new tablet will now go on sale tomorrow with no launch party.
