Microsoft continues its efforts to move Windows XP users from the 11-year-old software to a newer operating system, be it Windows 7 or Windows 8, but new data indicates that this is a pretty difficult mission.

Net Applications figures for the month of January 2013 show that Windows XP has increased its market share to 39.51 percent, remaining the second most popular operating system in the world after Windows 7.

Windows XP has posted a gain of 0.43 percent over the December 2012 market share, so instead of going down, the old software continues to be a top choice for many users around the world.

Microsoft, on the other hand, continues to recommend consumers to upgrade to a newer Windows version, as it would stop providing support for XP in April 2014.

This is what happens when you have a GOOD operating system.
WinXP (GOOD) -> Vista (BAD) -> Win7 (GOOD) ->Win8 (THE WORST!)
I'll be using WinXP and Win7 until Windows 9 comes along. ;)

I absolutely Hate and detest the fact that Windows is becoming an over-simplified OS.
Most people appear to love Windows 7, and while there's many new great features, some programs like Windows Explorer and Start Menu are too simplified and unable to customise.

For example, I want the start menu from XP, but 7 forces that left pin column. And Windows Explorer has that stupid bar at the top for common tasks which you can't remove.

Win 8 appears to be even more dumbed-down and designed for stupid people. I've since been seriously considering Linux, but unfortunately it's still an immature OS for the desktop.
