Reserve Windows 10 when you install Windows 8.1

Microsoft rolled out a Windows 10 upgrade reservation app for Windows 7 and 8.1 a couple of weeks ago, thus allowing users of these two operating system to reserve their free copy of the new operating system, and now the company is going even further to make sure that everyone is aware of this promo.

As WinBeta writes, the free Windows 10 upgrade reservation tool is now bundled directly into the Windows 8.1 installer, so if you purchase a new copy of the current operating system or a new PC running it and you reinstall, you are allowed to reserve your free upgrade to Windows 10 without doing anything else.

This basically helps Microsoft make sure that the majority of Windows 8.1 users are aware of the fact that a free upgrade offer is available and everyone installing the operating system will have to get through this step before reaching their desktops.

How the reservation process works

Once you reserve your free upgrade to Windows 10, Microsoft automatically downloads the necessary files in the background, no matter if you run Windows 7 or 8.1, so on July 29, everything you need to install and run the new operating system will be there.

This is part of Microsoft’s plan to provide everyone with the final bits of Windows 10 at the same time, so upgraders, Windows insiders, and new users should all get the operating system on July 29.

In the meantime, users who are already running a fully up-to-date copy of Windows 7 or 8.1 get the free upgrade reservation tool in the system tray, so they can also get the new OS from their desktops. If the app is not available, the same reservation process can be completed from Windows Update, so with so many methods to reserve it, you have basically no excuse for not upgrading to Windows 10.
