Response Point is currently in beta testing, but Microsoft informed that the IP phone system software will be made available in the second half of 2007, in no less than three different models: D-Link DVX-2000, Quanta Syspine and Uniden Evolo.

Essentially, Response Point is designed as an Internet protocol (IP) phone system addressing small-business environments. The second annual Microsoft Small Business Summit was the stage where the Redmond Company showcased Response Point, demonstrating support for both Voice over Internet Protocol and traditional phone lines.

"I am proud and honored to work with leaders in the computing, telephony and networking fields to bring 'Response Point' to market," said Xuedong Huang, general manager of the "Response Point" team at Microsoft. "Each of our OEM partners brings its own special expertise to our customers, allowing us to serve a much broader range of small businesses."

Microsoft also informed that it will ship the Beta 2 build of Response Point in early April 2007. Also, the Redmond Company will deliver public beta versions of Communications Server 2007 and Communicator 2007 by the end of this month, as part of its extensible VoIP software platform.

Response Point represents a small part of Microsoft's plans for the evolution of VoIP communications. In this sense, the product will feature a voice-activated user interface.

"The 'Response Point' voice-enabled user interface is a great example of how innovative new technology can be applied to solve everyday customer problems," said Rick Rashid, senior vice president of Research at Microsoft.
