All employees working in a Microsoft building within the Redmond campus were evacuated on Friday after the local fire station received reports of fire and toxic smoke in a research lab.

A story published by KOMO News reveals that fire crews decided to evacuate the building in order to investigate reports of fire inside Studio A in Microsoft’s Redmond campus.

It appears that the cause of the 911 call was actually an overheated mobile phone battery that triggered the fire alarm system and alerted the emergency teams.

While it’s not yet clear whether the overheated device was a Windows Phone, an Android device or an iPhone, the fire crews allowed employees to get back inside the building shortly after their arrival on the scene.

Microsoft is yet to issue a comment on this, but expect the Softies to hurry up the development of Windows Phone Blue as much as possible.
