Microsoft has launched another exciting game on Windows 8.1, promising to bring “console quality gaming” on both desktops and tablets running the modern OS version.

Cold Alley is an action game that puts you in control of a jet fighter to accomplish a long list of missions and take down enemies as you advance throughout the campaign.

“With an extensive single player campaign and a huge set of skirmish modes, the non-stop action will keep you on the edge of your seat!” Microsoft promises.

“Travel back in time to experience the unwritten history of covert operations. Master over a dozen models of aircraft as you take part in the race for jet fighter domination.”

The game comes with a fairly long campaign, multiple game modes, 3D graphics, a large collection of plains, high-detailed maps, advanced gameplay mechanics, and realistic sounds, and graphical effects.

“Take off and land on landing strips and aircraft carriers, soar through fully recreated cities with realistic weather, and contend with accurate atmospheric effects with aerial perspective, all from the interactive cockpits of a variety of highly detailed jet aircraft,” the company adds.

The available gaming modes include Dogfight Missions, Survival, Free for All, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and Defend the Base, and Microsoft promises that more will be added in future game updates.

The game is now available for free, but with a $6.99 price tag for either desktop computers and tablets. Approximately 1 GB of free space would be required on your device, so installation could take a little bit longer than expected.

Of course, the game supports both keyboards and touch, but for a truly unique experience, you can always plug in an Xbox 360 controller to play the game just like on a classic console.
