Microsoft is pretty much the only company that can more or less compete with Google in the search industry, so every time it reaches some important milestone, the software giant has every reason to be brag about it.

In a post detailing its notable activities in 2014, Microsoft reveals that the Yahoo Bing Network, which is based on its very own Bing services, has posted a really impressive growth, which brings it closer to Google.

While it admits that Google continues to be the top name in this field, Microsoft tells advertisers that by choosing the Yahoo Bing Network they can achieve even better results, pointing out that they “get a global audience, particularly in major markets including Canada, UK, France, and Germany.”

Microsoft: We now have 29 percent of the share market

According to details provided by Microsoft itself, the Yahoo Bing Network owns 29 percent of the search market, which is quite an important achievement since Google continues to be the dominant service in this particular industry.

What’s more, the company says that its searchers worldwide spend 60 percent more time online than Google’s searchers, so for customers, this is indeed a very important thing to be considered when choosing a new ad network.

“In September of last year, the advertising network had 167 million unique searchers and 5.3 billion monthly searches. That represented a 29 percent piece of the search market pie,” Microsoft said in a post.

Statistics provided by comScore for the United States market reveal that Google’s sites continue to dominate the search industry with a share of 67 percent, while Microsoft comes second with 19.5 percent. Yahoo is third with 10.3 percent, which pushes the Microsoft-Yahoo partnership to 29.8 percent, very close to the actual figures provided by Redmond itself.

According to comScore, “17.9 billion explicit core searches were conducted in November, with Google Sites ranking first with 12 billion. Microsoft Sites ranked second with 3.5 billion searches, followed by Yahoo Sites with 1.8 billion, Ask Network with 355 million and AOL, Inc. with 224 million,” so Microsoft is indeed on the rise when it comes to search and ad businesses.
