Even though Shylock is believed to be one of the main threats for Skype users, it appears that many more forms of malware are actually targeting those who installed Microsoft’s VoIP application.

Trend Micro security researchers have warned that WORM_PHORPIEX.JZ is trying to infect computers running Skype, even though it also uses some other methods to spread, including removable drives and emails.

But it appears that Microsoft is blocking this infection too, as the company has recently sent us an updated statement, explaining that Shylock wasn’t the only piece of malware blocked thanks to its recent security improvements.

“We are currently helping protect customers by blocking the malware known as Shylock, Phorpiex and Bublik. We continue to encourage customers to avoid opening links from untrusted sources and visiting untrusted sites,” a Microsoft spokesperson told us.
