Microsoft Australia has found a new, fun way to promote the Internet Explorer 9 browser among Windows users: a contest called “Edge of the Internet”.
Featuring a $20,000 AUD reward, the contest will get users all the way to the “edge of the Internet” to find Dave.
Basically, users will be provided with a series of web links, one of which should get them to the place where Dave was last seen.
However, each page will link to another one, and so on, until one lucky user manages to hit the right link and find Dave.
On the special
page that the software giant put up for the contest, users will get the chance to learn more on the deal straight from Dave, via a video placed there, and will also be offered additional, written details.
“Dave has gone beyond the Edge of the Internet and now he needs your help to get back home. Be the first to find him and he'll give you a cool $20,000 for your trouble,” Microsoft explains.
“When you register for the journey to the Edge of the Internet you'll be given a bunch of links to other web pages - one of which was the last place Dave was seen before he got lost.”
On the
registration page, Microsoft also explains that the user who managed to find Dave will have to enter exactly the same details to claim the great prize.
“If you are the first to find Dave, you will have to re-enter your details again exactly as you have here to validate your entry,” Microsoft notes.
There is also a page featuring tips for those who will join the search for Dave, so that they are able to find him easier. Even so, they will still have to click on a bunch of links, just as stated above.
“Of course, each of these links leads to more pages - and so on and so on. Your challenge is to make your way to Dave - click by click and page by page,” Microsoft explains.
“Follow the wrong path and you could be clicking 'til the end of time. Follow the right path and you could be first to reach Dave and score $20,000. With so many web pages out there, you're going to need a really fast browser - and Dave's number-one recommendation is Windows Internet Explorer 9.”
Before joining the search, users should have a look at the competition’s terms and conditions.
Microsoft did not set a specific end date for the contest, but chances are that it would run for a few months before all tips and clues are exhausted. Provided that no one finds Dave before that, of course.
Internet Explorer 9 is available for download from Softpedia too,
