Microsoft has recently announced that Amy Hood would officially become the next chief financial officer of the tech giant after Peter Klein’s departure in end June.

Amy Hood, currently the chief financial officer of Microsoft’s Business Division, and Tami Reller, in charge of business and marketing strategy of the Windows unit, have both been in pole-position to replace Klein, according to reports.

Steve Ballmer has apparently picked Hood, most likely because the Reller is currently one of the high-profile executives that are playing a key role in the Windows division, as the company still struggles to boost sales of its new Windows 8 OS.

Peter Klein will retire in end June to ensure a smooth transition, Microsoft said, but Hood becomes CFO effective immediately.

“Amy brings the right talents and experiences to the role as we continue to strengthen our focus on devices and services,” said Steve Ballmer, Microsoft’s chief executive officer.
