After causing a pretty big stir yesterday when it presented a special gameplay video of The Witcher 3 running on a PC while promoting its Xbox One console, Microsoft has issued a statement, apologizing for the lack of a disclaimer about the origin of the footage.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set to debut next month and developer CD Projekt Red confirmed a short while ago that work on the role-playing game is complete, meaning just a few short weeks separate fans from the new title's debut on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

A gameplay video made on PC was used to promote the Xbox One

This also meant that lots of new videos have appeared in recent weeks, the latest surfacing yesterday on Microsoft's Xbox YouTube channel. The video portrayed a short quest from the game's prologue called Precious Cargo and it ran at a 60fps framerate.

However, eagle-eyed fans immediately noticed that The Witcher 3 only runs at 60fps on the PC platform, as on the Xbox One and the PS4, CD Projekt Red confirmed that it was only able to achieve a 30fps framerate.

Microsoft apologizes for the mistake

As such, Microsoft was more or less lying to fans by offering a gameplay video of The Witcher 3 running on PC in order to promote the Xbox One edition. After a pretty big uproar, the corporation added a small disclaimer and now a special apology is available, via GameSpot.

"This morning we posted a new trailer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to our YouTube channels featuring footage provided by CD Projekt Red that was captured from the PC version of the game and may not be reflective of final Xbox One gameplay. This was in no way intended to misrepresent the title on Xbox One. We have updated the description of the asset to make clear the source and platform of this footage. We apologize for any confusion," it mentions.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set to launch on May 19 worldwide, so until CD Projekt Red specifically mentions that it's going to debut a video of the game running on PS4 or Xbox One, it's safe to assume that it's running on PC.
