Microsoft has just confirmed that both Tony Bates and Tami Reller will leave the company to pursue other opportunities, explaining that suitable replacements have already been found within the software giant.

A memo submitted by CEO Satya Nadella to employees this morning reveals that Tony Bates, EVP of business development and evangelism, “has decided this is the right time for him to look for his next opportunity” and will be temporarily replaced by Eric Rudder.

Tami Reller, on the other hand, head of the Marketing Group, will leave to take some time off and then seek other jobs outside the company, Nadella explained.

Mark Penn, the one behind the Scroogled campaign that positioned Microsoft against its long-time rival Google in a war involving search engines, email platforms, and other services owned by the two companies, will take over the leadership role at the company as EVP, Chief Strategy Officer.

“His focus on using data to quickly evaluate and evolve our campaigns has driven new insights and understanding. Mark and his team also will continue to provide input in the area of competitive research and analysis,” Nadella explained.
