Microsoft has just announced that the preview label from Outlook for Android has been removed. The application was released on Android platform back in January as beta, and as full-fledged version on iOS.

According to Microsoft, although a decision was made to release both versions, the iOS version of Outlook was ahead of the Android app in terms of features and performance.

In order to bring the Android version of Outlook on par with the iOS application, Microsoft had to release no less than 17 updates, which means they have launched about one update per week.

The new Outlook for Android application offers improved look and feel, but Microsoft will continue to polish it in future updates.

The icon sets have been updated and the app's fonts have been simplified to offer a more consistent Outlook experience across platforms and devices. But the most important thing was to make Outlook feel like a native Android application.

The app is available in all markets supported by the Google Play Store

Outlook for Android comes with IMAP support, as well as support for Office 365, Exchange, Outlook.com, iCloud, Gmail and Yahoo! Mail accounts. In addition, the application include the ability to sync mail from email providers that support IMAP, such as AOL.com and Comcast.net.

The People section of the application has been redesigned and a new directory search has been added into Outlook, which allows users to find contact details for someone in their company or school who's not save as a contact.

With Outlook for Android users can customize swipe gestures in order to sort email much faster and easier. Obviously, these gestures can be personalized to match your needs.

Microsoft also shared some of its future plans regarding Outlook for Android: “This is just the beginning and we will continue shipping valuable new experiences every few weeks to help you get even more done while on the go, as well as expand the capabilities that matter to IT.”

If you don't have the application installed yet, you can now download Outlook for Android for free via Google Play store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 4.0 and up.
