Microsoft today released a new round of discounts and special offers for Windows 8.1 apps and games as part of the Red Stripe deals campaign that's getting new items every week.

This time, the company is offering one of the most popular games in the store, namely Skulls of the Shogun, for a very special price, while some other apps, including PhotoStatic Pro, are offered with a 50 percent price cut.

Here's the entire list of apps that are discounted this week:

Skulls of the Shogun – $1.99 (€1.5) Phototastic Pro – $1.49 (€1.10) Slingcat – $0.99 ((€0.73) Maya the Bee – $1.49 (€1.10) The Mystery of the Crystal Portal (full) – $2.99 (€2.20) Billiards HD – $2.49 (€1.80)

As you know, the Red Stripe Deals campaign is refreshed every week, so those who are already running this particular operating system should look in the store for more discounts every seven days. Microsoft says that more high-quality apps and games will be coming in the following weeks, so keep an eye on the store to make sure you're not missing any major discount for your favorite Metro tools.

“Look for new Red Stripe Deals every Thursday in the Windows Store Collections, and in the Red Stripe Deals Collection for Windows Phone. Not all deals and apps are available in all locations, so be sure to check the Store app on your own device to see what’s offered in your region,” the company said in a statement.

The number of apps listed for download in the Windows Store is growing these days and, at this point, users can choose from up to 165,000 applications that have already been published. Most of these apps offer support for both desktops and tablets, so they're working on Windows 8 and Windows RT as well.

In most cases, these apps are recommended to be used on touch-capable devices, such as a Surface RT, but some are also offering support for mice and keyboards to be installed on PCs.

The games category remains the most popular right now, with Microsoft saying that it accounts for most of the downloads in the store, but entertainment and social tools are also following very close with a big number of hits as well.

The quality of these apps is the essential element that needs to be improved in the future, as some are still lacking important features that are either available on the desktop or in other third-party solutions.
