Forefront Identity Manager 2010 could also get new capabilities

Microsoft has finalized the acquisition of an identity and access management technology company focused on the healthcare industry, permitting it to take to add extra capabilities to its own health solutions. In the first half of December 2010, the Redmond giant announced its intention to buy Sentillion and integrate the company’s products into the Microsoft Amalga Unified Intelligence System (UIS). The plan is for the software giant to catalyze the evolution of the Amalga Unified Intelligence System with Sentillion’s identity and access technology, in order to streamline the manner in which healthcare professionals access multiple IT applications and patient data.

“We’re excited to bring Sentillion’s talent, thought leadership and innovation in health IT into the Health Solutions Group,” said Corporate Vice President Peter Neupert. “Combining our assets will allow us to offer healthcare providers a much simpler way to access and use the applications and information they need to perform at the highest levels. Acquiring Sentillion will allow us to amplify and accelerate our impact on health IT and health globally.”

The Sentillion team will become an integral part of the Microsoft Health Solutions Group, helmed by Neupert. Neither party wished to disclose the financial terms of their agreement, but indicated that Sentillion would continue to operate out of its current offices in Andover. At the same time, existing and future Sentillion customers will continue to be able to buy and leverage support from the company recently acquired by software giant. Microsoft will focus on defining the long-term evolution of the integration of Sentillion solutions into Amalga UIS.

At the same time, the Redmond company revealed that it would not limit Sentillion technologies to just Amalga UIS. In this regard, Microsoft will be looking to also add extra capabilities to Forefront Identity Manager 2010.
