Windows 7 remains the top choice for many computer users Enlarge picture - Windows 7 remains the top choice for many computer users
Even though Microsoft has already announced that it had sold 60 million copies of Windows 8, there are plenty of users who are disappointed with the operating system and wish to go back to Windows 7.

Well, it’s definitely very important to know that some Windows 8 computers currently on sale are delivered with what Microsoft is calling downgrade rights that allow users to get back Windows 7 fast and easily, as LifeHacker writes.

In just a few words, downgrading to Windows 7 can be done with a simple disc and a genuine product key, with Microsoft allowing you to switch back again to Windows 8 at any time.

“The system is licensed and ready for conversion,” Microsoft explains.

Windows 8 Pro can be downgraded only to Windows 7 Professional or Windows Vista Business, according to Microsoft’s FAQ on downgrade rights. Check out this page if you wish to purchase a new Windows 8 computer with downgrade support.

Anyone who downgrades to Windows 7 is just being stubborn. The Windows 7 desktop is ALL there... aside from the Start Button... which can be added if someone really wants it. Furthermore, you only have to deal with Metro when the system boots up. After that, you can stay in desktop mode the rest of the time.

Honestly, I think most of the complaints about Windows 8 are from people who don't actually own it.

Certainly going from the dumbed-down mess that is Windows 8, on a desktop machine, to Windows 7 is an upgrade! I stuck with 8 for 2 weeks and finally I'd had enough. A clumsy mess needing 3-rd party addons just to get what I had before was not an improvement and totally overcame the few genuine advantages. It was a relief to go back to 7.

Put your 7 onto another hard drive and update to 8 there. Then you will have
both 8 and 7 so no need to downgrade!

Problem is, with 8 and 7 being on different drives (partitions); what you archive in one is not always available to the other (e.g. received Emails & announcements).
To use a car/truck metaphor, "my avalanche gives me both".
Just install "Classic Shell" in Win8 and you have both.
Win8 actually DOES have some improved features; why toss out the baby with the bath water?

Too bad if the laptop you bought has no optical drive, huh? No recovery disc and they no longer put a product key sticker on the bottom. We are screwed.

Do not use 8 for normal use. I keep it so I can learn about 8. They will bring out 9 later!
I edit video and play games so a tablet is not ideal as you cannot sit comfortably.
Ok for the youngsters but they don't think about the oldies with arthritis in the hands.

Microsoft is its own worst enemy in the way it is marketing this product. From what I see on TV it's a gaming system for tablets.

Well on my Acer I only got Windows 8 (not Pro) preinstalled and I see now that my only option to upgrade to Windows 7 is to get it through the proper channel where you don't have any use for WGA.

I like windows8 but it seems need for the better updates, Can this be done by Microsoft .com to clean also bios memory of previous system OS BEFORE installing fresh copy of windows8 because it reminds sometimes old system even I formatted it already junk it, Can you include in your package to remove old saved command in the BIOS memory? because it causes sometimes trouble on windows8 ( don't mind it if non applicable ).
