Microsoft is trying to compete with Google and Apple in the wearable tech field with several new projects, including a potential smart watch that could even run Windows.

Redmond, however, has much more optimistic plans, as the Softies are now looking into Osterhout Design Group, a company specialized in wearable tech and already working with the US military.

TechCrunch writes that Google, Samsung, and LG have all been interested in this company, but Microsoft is the only large player that's still involved in negotiations.

At this point, the talks come down to acquisition price, said to be around $200 million (€147 million) and the assets to be taken over, as the deal could include not only Osterhout's patents, but also staff and existing contracts.

Microsoft hasn't yet commented on these rumors, but given the fact that Osterhout has been involved in manufacturing military technology, it could give the software giant a chance in the fight against Google and Apple in the growing wearable gadgets market.
