It’s a good idea to keep an eye on the Lync Server 2010 Resource Kit, since this collection of downloads is evolving continually, with Microsoft adding fresh content every month.

In the last article I wrote on the Lync Server 2010 Resource Kit, I told users that the Redmond company had just introduced the Enhanced Presence chapter.

Since the first half of July 2011, the software giant has updated the Lync Server 2010 Resource Kit with two additional chapters, all now available for download.

Customers running Microsoft’s latest unified communications offering can head over to the Download Center and grab each of the 19 standalone chapters, or simply download the .ZIP archive which packs all the content.

According to Microsoft, the latest additions to the kit are the Instant Messaging and External User Access chapters, the last of which unveiled earlier this month.

It’s important to note that the Lync Server 2010 Resource Kit will continue to evolve just as it has been, with new content added to the already comprehensive package.

The Lync Server 2010 Resource Kit which Microsoft serves through its Download Center offers chapters out of the Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Resource Kit book, according to the company.

“Microsoft Lync Server 2010 communications software allows users to connect to each other remotely. [The External User Access] chapter describes the most common remote access scenarios, and then provides detailed call flow diagrams, traces, and related ms-diagnostics codes. Overviews of the basic scenarios are provided, giving context for how users make various connections,” Microsoft said.

“The Instant Messaging chapter of the upcoming Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Resource Kit book provides details about how SIP is used for instant messaging (IM) in a Lync Server 2010 deployment. This chapter is being developed. It describes collaboration scenarios that use IM and details the internal processes that support these scenarios,” the company noted back in July.
