The device is currently listed as out of stock in the store

Microsoft officially introduced the Band last month, thus stepping into the wearables sector and compete in a market where several other large companies are already planning powerful devices.

The Microsoft Band was only available in limited numbers at first, but soon after its public launch, the product became unavailable on the official Microsoft store website, so it was pretty much impossible to find one seven days after launch.

But what exactly happened with the Band inventories is yet to be determined, as some people claim that Microsoft only launched few units to make sure that it's running out of stock and can thus praise its success.

At this point, the Microsoft Band is still listed as out of stock, which could be an indication that Redmond has problems keeping up with demand, but some sources suggest that the company doesn't actually want to replenish stocks in an attempt to make us believe that the device is actually very successful.

Only 5,000 units in stock

Microsoft Product Reviews was the first to report on this, claiming that a Microsoft support worker revealed that the company actually produced only 5,000 units of the Band.

"You're luckier than you think, Microsoft only had 5,000 of them for the launch," Microsoft's worker said, emphasizing that the company was working hard to make the device available again, but there's no indication to the date when the Band could once again be up for grabs.

5,000 surely seems like a pretty small number, especially for a product developed by Microsoft, so it was really interesting to find out whether the company indeed released only few Bands or not.

Microsoft says this isn't true

When contacted to comment on rumors pointing to a 5,000-unit initial stock for the Microsoft Band, the company offered a typical response that no clear details could be provided on this.

Soon after that, however, a Microsoft spokesperson submitted the following statement:

"We are excited by the response we have seen to Microsoft Band but Microsoft does not comment on production volumes. we don't officially share or comment on specific numbers but, so you’re aware, we have built and have sold well beyond 5,000 units."

In the end, the Microsoft Band continues to be unavailable for those who'd like to buy one, but expect more units to hit the shelves just in time for the holiday season. The Band is currently available to United States buyers only, but Microsoft also promised to make it available in more countries across the world very soon.
